August 2005 Update
Oakland Equestrian Coalition Update
August 25, 2005
1. Merle Richmond, Coordinator, Oakland Equestrian Coalition, has a new email address
merlerichmond AT sbcglobal.net.
2. RIDE THE ROSE & CRUISE THE CONNECTOR RIDE IS THIS SUNDAY,
August 28, 2005.. The weather is supposed to be good, so I’m hoping for a good
turn out and hoping for lots of donations for Headwater’s Trails to use for equestrian
friendly trails. Oakland County Parks are still talking about the great turn out at
Addison Oaks. Let’s do it again.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. Cost is $10 registration (includes
lunch and insurance) and a minimum $10 donation, but lets get lots of pledges, to
show that we are willing to support equestrians trails. Those moving their rigs to
Springfield Oaks can picket their horses and volunteers will be available to watch
them if needed. An Oakland County Shuttle will bring you back to Rose Oaks to
register, tack up and ride. Lunch will be at Springfield Oaks from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
I will attach a pledge sheet again and a registration form. You will be able to fill in
the registration form at Rose Oaks. Maps will be provided of the trails at Rose
Oaks, trailer route to Springfield Oaks, riding route to Springfield Oaks and trails
at Springfield Oaks.
3. Schoolcraft College’s fall equine program/class brochure is out and some will be
available at the ride on Sunday. You can also visit the Oakland Equestrian Coalition
website at www.oaklandequestrians.org for the class schedule. Remember to let me
know if there are specific classes you would like to see offered, as I am a member
of the Equine Arts Program Advisory Committee and take your suggestions to them.
Winter 2006 is already set as to the classes that will be offered, so think of Fall 2006.
4. The bugs seem to be mostly gone now, so check the equestrian events on the
Schedule I sent you or on the above website, and get out an support our local
Trail groups and the parks, and enjoy yourself.
5. We will be putting a Classified Section on our website very soon. I would encourage
ny of you with boarding facilities to get a classified ad. That is the most common
question that I get from the website. The price will be $15/month or $75 for the
entire year. This money will be used to pay our hosting fees and to provide some
funds for our webmaster. If you search for us on Google, we come up in the top three,
which is very good.
Hope to see many of you on the Ride the Rose and Cruise the Connector.
